GUEST ROOMS is an online journal for contemporary art.
Texts, conversations, reviews, and images reflect and meditate on recent and reencountered work made by artists at the core and at the edge as well as curator-run ventures steeped in the now.
GUEST ROOMS was founded in 2017 within a private space in Amsterdam, Netherlands and later unfolded in Brussels, Belgium. Today, it is based between the near and far, here and there, distant and destined.
GUEST ROOMS exists in plain and private view, discussing the ambiguity of ‘real’ spaces as sites for artistic contact addressing various traditions, tendencies, and destinies of exhibition-making. This motivation springs forth from the consequential show ‘Chambres d’Amis’ (lit. Rooms of Friends) in Gent curated in 1986 by Jan Hoet, who placed artworks within 58 private homes to “evade the overwhelming nature of large, prestigious exhibitions by cutting the museum to pieces and scattering it all over town.”
A multitude of visions and voices are represented on GUEST ROOMS. Views expressed are the authors’ own.
